Five Parsecs From Home: The Final Frontier

By the mid 21st century humanity had stepped timidly into space, but had already lost it's way. Greed was good. Multinationals and the super wealthy owned the world. The planet suffered. Leaders had forgotten what it was to lead. War was inevitable, Then it came. In the aftermath The Long Winter reminded humanity what it was to be human. For survival of the species, against the odds we rose from the ice and ashes fostering an age of cooperation, for the good of all. We moved mountains, and made a new world, laying the foundations for the next steps in our incredible journey. In 2193 The orbital yards at Luna were completed, By 2250 a human colonist took their first breath of clean Martian air. In 2329 The first extrasolar colony was founded on Alpha Centauri 4. Then, In 2364 the Marconi Array on the edge of human space detected the first evidence there was intelligent life out there. So we went to meet the neighbors.

Five Parsecs From Home: We Have The Power

Ship's power has been a recurring trope and plot device in all of Trek and in TOS it was quite rare that Mister Scott happily replied job was a good one and reported and the space pistons are firing at 100%.  My Five Parsecs campaign is unlikely to be any different but in this instance on the terrain building front we can have a moment that would make Scotty smile.  We have the power, or more appropriately Reactor Alpha is online.

Five Unsung Hobby Heroes

My hobby constitutes an important part of my wellness plan.  Taking a load off and hitting the bench is a time for relaxation, clearing the head, rejuvenation, and taking a breather from all those other things in this great experiment we call life.  Painting, modelling, and creative endeavour fit the bill;  Fucking around with finicky materials and the interruptions they entail, Not so much.  Here are five simple items it's awesome to have on hand when the paint must flow.

Five Parsecs From Home: Better Living in a Distant Retro Future

Production still from pilot episode, "Revelation at Zarathustra"

A few months back I became interested in Five Parsecs From Home.  The setting is generic space opera built around the adventures of a crew that you generate to explore the galaxy.  I thought it would be really cool to build a crew and a story setting based on classic sci fi shows, particularly TOS Trek.  That's when I realized I didn't have a great selection of retro sci figures, or much in the way of sci fi terrain for the tabletop at all.  I decided to build a series of structures that could stand in as a listening post, a science station, or with enough of them a small colony.

Arise Son of Void Spaces!

It's Alive!  Alive I say!

Way back in 2012 I started a blog called Void Spaces.  It never made me rich, or famous, but I enjoyed sharing my hobby, interacting with other hobbyists and having a respository for my projects and ideas.  Unfortunately my dedication to the blog was inconsistent, and while I was proud of the content I did post I never did it with the regularity I would have liked.  I made my last post in the middle of 2019.  About a year later I resolved to get back at it and discovered that to my disappointment I couldn't.  Somehow the threads of digital identities got tangled and whatever email account I had associated with the blog was closed down.
